Disclaimer regarding Automated Endoscope Reprocessors (AERs)
As per the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines, it is up to each Automated Endoscope Reprocessor (AER) company to perform validation studies to develop and support their specific instructions and product claims on the "automated" reprocessing of flexible endoscopes.
Before using any AER machine for the "automated" reprocessing of PENTAX scopes, removable scope components and/or endoscopic accessories, each individual AER manufacturer must be contacted. Only the AER manufacturer can identify/confirm their specific reprocessing claims with respect to reprocessing model specific endoscopes, all internal channels in each endoscope as well as each scope component and/or accessory.
It is our understanding that based upon current Steris System 1 product labeling / QPC instruction manuals, Steris makes no claims that they can sterilize scope components such as suction valves, Air/Water valves, inlet seals, irrigations tubes, etc.
Steris Corporation should be contacted to confirm the System 1's reprocessing claims for sterilizing removable PENTAX scope components including suction valves.
