Montvale, NJ – October 2nd, 2018 – PENTAX Medical, a healthcare industry leader in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy solutions, is pleased to announce that its innovative C.A.P. HD Duodenoscope (ED34-i10T) has been granted the Technology Breakthrough Award from Premier Inc., a leading healthcare improvement company.

The Premier Inc. Breakthrough Technology Award is based on a product accomplishing one or more of five criteria: improving patient or healthcare worker safety; improving clinical outcomes; improving non-clinical operational efficiencies; bridging a gap in care; and offering a dramatic process-of-care cost savings. With this award, the C.A.P. HD has been specifically recognized by Premier in three key areas:

  • It potentially improves the patient experience by addressing a critical component of a duodenoscope and removing one of the key sources of potential infection from the equation
  • It potentially improves clinical outcomes via the industry’s first disposable distal end cap, a competency-based training approach to improving the reprocessing process, and a lighter control body and HD imaging to augment diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities
  • It potentially reduces costs of care delivery by lowering the overall risk of infection.

In response to the award, David Woods, President and CEO, PENTAX Medical, Americas commented, “We are delighted to have received the Breakthrough Technology Award for the C.A.P. HD Duodenoscope by Premier, recognizing not only its clinical innovation to improved device design, but even more so the potential improvement to patient safety. In addition, Premier has also recognized PENTAX Medical’s overall organizational dedication to aligning itself with their hospital clients’ Triple Aim goals, which is a very meaningful achievement as well.”

The C.A.P. HD Duodenoscope is designed by PENTAX to improve the standards of treatment and safety for both routine and advanced ERCP via improved Clarity, Access, and Performance.

The C.A.P. HD is equipped with HD+ high-definition imaging for enhanced clinical visualization. Combined with i-SCAN and Optical Enhancement (OE), it is possible to clearly visualize the mucosa in detail and locate the papillae for cannulation.

The C.A.P. HD features the first detachable and single-use distal cap technology to be cleared and approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This design allows for improved access of critical components during cleaning and reprocessing.

The C.A.P. HD has introduced several additional advancements focused on improving overall performance during procedures, including a redesigned elevator for enhanced stability and control for precise cannulation of the papilla, an improved lightweight i10 Series Ergonomic Control Body designed for comfort and handling, as well as a large instrument channel to address ERCP therapeutic needs.
