PENTAX Medical presents a new hygiene solution to enhance patient safety in endoscopy at ESGE Days 2019

April 4, 2019

A revolutionary way to dry and store endoscopes with plasma to reduce cross-contamination risks.

Prague, April 4th, 2019 –  PENTAX Medical, a division of the HOYA Group, officially presents a new hygiene solution to minimize the risk of bacterial contamination through a highly effective drying mechanism for the endoscope channels and active storing of the endoscopes with plasma. The PlasmaTYPHOON is a device for ultra-fast drying of endoscope channels and storage in a single use recipient, the PlasmaBAG. These innovations deliver superior and efficient performance by significantly reducing endoscope reprocessing cycle times. It is the first solution that can guarantee a dry endoscope within five minutes1 and storage up to 31 days2,3 in a fully controlled environment. Biotech-Germande validated the PlasmaTYPHOON according to European standards3.

The PlasmaTYPHOON is simple to use, compact, efficient, and silent. The drying process is managed by a patented curve of pressure. The unit uses a laminar flow to eliminate the water and a turbulent heated flow to dry the walls. Storage in a PlasmaBAG with an atmosphere of ozone and medical air improves the hygiene and microbiological safety of the scope. The system can be used for all endoscopic brands.

“Since the invention of the PlasmaTYPHOON I have been in close contact with customers such as employees of hygiene departments, biomedical engineers and nurses. The vast majority of customers were convinced from the very first demonstration, as it saves a lot of storage space and time. Since the PlasmaBAG is completely sealed, preventing one from touching it before usage, it is less vulnerable to contamination and manual mistakes,” commented Dr. Daniel Vinteler, CEO and Founder of PlasmaTYPHOON and PlasmaBAG. “These innovations make it possible to improve the hygiene standard.”

Biotech-Germande validated the PlasmaTYPHOON according to European standards. Their report stated, “when used according to the manufacturer's recommendations the PlasmaTYPHOON allows a better removal of the liquids present in the internal channels of the endoscopes and thus allows better control of the residual contamination level of endoscopes.”

“At PENTAX Medical we are committed to address the hygiene challenges in endoscopy by offering solutions that minimize risk of infections, improve clinical outcomes, enhance provider experience, and increase healthcare productivity. We are actively listening to our customers and stakeholders, so we understand the complexity of the procedures and the risk of infection. Based on these insights, we are truly proud to present the PlasmaTYPHOON to the European market and provide our customers with an efficient and effective drying and storage solution to address unmet hygiene needs associated with endoscope reprocessing,” said Rainer Burkard, Managing Director of PENTAX Europe GmbH and President of PENTAX Medical EMEA.
